It is a great way to increase visitor interaction on your site and provide a way for them to ask questions. We recommend trying out a company like Meebo that offers a chat widget for your Web site. Below we have included instructions for adding Meebo's chat on your *net*Adventist site. We recommend you post chat hours above or below your chat window so people know when you or a volunteer are available. To set-up your Meebo chat window, you must to first go the Meebo download page at www.meebome.com. In the Widget Title field, type in the name of your Web site (ABC Church or XYZ Academy), then choose a Display Name for yourself while online. Next select Custom-Size for Widget Size and input 148 x 300 so it will fit into one of the side columns of your site. Then you can select a color scheme. Click Next. The next screen asks for your user information to set-up your account (it is free). Your real name and email will not be shown to other users. After typing your name, email address, and choosing a password, click on Next. Now a screen will appear with the source code to place on your site. Just copy the code and paste it into the Source screen of a new Static Content page. You can easily open a Source screen by clicking on Source button at the top of the tool bar in the Dashboard. Once you paste your code into the box, click OK. Add your chat hours. Then click Save Static Content. Be sure to go Layout Control and add your new page to your Layout Manager. That's it! You are ready to begin chatting. *Feel free to email us your netTip ideas. We have listed some definitions here to help you. *Web 2.0* ? This is what techies are calling the new breed of Internet technology. More specifically, it is the technological trend in Web design aimed at enhancing creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development of social-networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, as well as wikis and blogs. *Wiki* ? A wiki is a collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify its content. Wikipedia(a free online encyclopedia) is one of the best-known wikis. *Blog* ? A blog is a Web site that functions as an online diary. Most are maintained by individuals. Many blogs also provide commentary or news on a particular subject. A typical blog combines text, images, links, video, and other media related to its topic. It also usually has a place for readers to leave comments in an interactive format. *RSS Feed* ? RSS (which stands for Real Simple Syndication) is a form of Web syndication in which a section of a Web site is made available for other sites to use. This is done by making Web feeds available from the site in order to provide others with a summary of the site's recently added content (such as the latest news posts). *Feel free to send us other resources or articles you'd like to see.* [image: FAQs] *I hear the term "widget" used all the time. What is it?* When people use the term "widget" in reference to the Web, they mean anything that can be embedded within a Web page. Think of them as embeddable chunks of code. Usually a widget adds some content to a page that is not static. Generally widgets are third party originated, though they can be home-made. Widgets are also known as modules, snippets, and plug-ins. *To submit a question for the FAQs column, email us. Here's how you can create a link that visitors can click on to easily bookmark your site. Start by creating a new Static Content page or choosing an existing page. In the main text area, type "Bookmark This Page." Then highlight the text and click Insert/Edit Link. For Link Type, choose URL. For Protocol, choose Other. Then copy and paste the following code into the URL field: javascript:if(window.sidebar)sidebar.addPanel(document.title,location.href,'');if(window.external)external.AddFavorite(location.href,document.title);void(0); Be sure the above code doesn't include any spaces or line breaks in it. Then save it and add it as a plug-in in Layout Control. This works for the latest versions of Microsoft Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Netscape Navigator, but not other browsers. If you have an older version of these listed browsers, it won't cause you an error?it simply won't function. *Feel free to email us your netTip ideas. (Keep in mind that for ownership purposes, template designs belong to the organization, not to the individual.) Visit our help website and go to the Techies Information link. You'll find a zipped template specification file about 110 KB that you can use to have complete control over your site's look and feel. *Feel free to send us other resources or articles you'd like to see.* [image: FAQs] *Does netAdventist have a newsletter option? I would like our members to be able to sign-up for our newsletter on our Web site, and then be able use that list to distribute the newsletter.* While the current 2.0 version of *net*Adventist doesn't have a newsletter option, the upcoming *net*Adventist 3.0 version does. Your members will be able to sign-up for your newsletter on your site, and then you will be able to manage the database within your *net*Adventist dashboard. You also will have access to newsletter templates where you can drag and drop content from your site. The 3.0 version will be available soon. We will be talking about the powerful new capabilities of *net*Adventist 3.0 in upcoming issues of this newsletter. *To submit a question for the FAQs column, email us.
