[image: Tips for netAdventist v3.0 users] Tips for netAdventist v3.0 users Managing Subscribers and Sending Email Newsletters in *net*Adventist v3.0 The 3.0 version of *net*Adventist has an extension that manages and creates subscriber lists. It also enables you to send out emails to these subscriber lists. Through this extension you can send an email newsletter (sometimes called an e-Newsletter) to your members or constituents. To access this feature, you will need to first set-up your Mailing Lists extension. You can do this by clicking on the *Settings* tab in your Dashboard, then clicking on *Extensions* in the sidebar menu. In the next screen, scroll down through the list until you come to *Mailing Lists *and click on *Activate*. Your Mailings Lists extension should now be activated. If you refresh your screen, you will notice a new tab in your Dashboard menu called *Email Lists*. In the Email Lists tab and you will notice a blue button on the top right of the screen titled *Add New List*. This button will take you to a new screen where you can create a new subscriber list. You will want to give your new subscriber list a name (such as Church Newsletter List) and customize your email footer. The footer's default setting contains information on how to unsubscribe from your mailing list. Once you have created a new mailing list, you can easily view the names and emails of those subscribed to it by highlighting the list in your *Title*screen and then scrolling down to *Current List Members*. To send an email to this mailing list, click on *New Post*. Here you can give your email a title (such as November Church Newsletter) and paste your content (i.e. the body of your newsletter). You are then given the option to either send your message right away or save it as a draft to send later. Saved drafts and previous email newsletters can be accessed by clicking on either *Draft Posts* or *Previous Posts* in the sidebar menu of the Email Lists screen. [image: Helpful Links, Applications, and Content] Shared Links, Content, and Applications *General Conference Web Site Guidelines* The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has established guidelines to assist denominational entities in creating and maintaining an online presence. All denominational entities operating a Web site should consult these guidelines. Click hereto read them in their entirety. Listed below is a brief summary of them. 1. Only official Church entities administered by organizations listed in the SDA Yearbook are entitled to use the Church's corporate identity symbols (i.e. logo graphic and text). 2. Domain names used by Church entities should be owned and registered by that entity or a related denominational entity (such as a conference or union); and a business plan should be established to preserve the domain name for future use by the entity. 3. Every denominational Web site should display appropriate trademark and copyright notices and symbols. Click herefor more information. 4. Church beliefs and teachings are to be upheld in content published on all denominational Web sites. 5. All Web site content must reflect the courtesies of public discourse. The Church's message can be communicated in ways that acknowledge diversity of viewpoints while avoiding hostile or offensive remarks and caricatures about other people, groups, or organizations. 6. Church Web sites must respect copyrights when posting audio, video, pictures, text, and all other content. 7. All Web sites should display professional appearance, including design, choice of colors, graphics, and layout. 8. Adventist jargon, acronyms, and abbreviations are to be used with care on denominational Web sites as the public may have little understanding of these terms. Web site content should be checked for spelling and grammar. 9. The board or executive committee of an entity is ultimately responsible for the maintenance, content, and operation of its Web site. Therefore, each entity is expected to establish a system for monitoring and oversight. 10. Web pages which include time-sensitive information should be updated on a regular basis. It is recommended that a monitoring system be established to measure unique visitors or page views. 11. Care should be exercised when selecting links to other Web sites. Links should be supportive of the Church's mission, message, and values. Legal counsel should be obtained as to whether or not commercial activity facilitated by the Web site will jeopardize the organization's status as a religious, not-for-profit organization. 12. Denominational entities sponsoring Web sites are responsible for ensuring that the operation and content of the site is in compliance with applicable laws, including requirements for the privacy protection of children who may access the Web site or whose picture may be placed on the Web site. 13. A feedback option for visitors to leave inquiries and comments is recommended. [image: Helpful Links, Applications, and Content] Tips for netAdventist v3.0 users The Basics?getting to know your v3.0 site When you log-in to your *net*Adventist v3.0 site for the first time you will notice a new layout for the *Dashboard*. Your first screen provides quick links for adding events, announcements, news, content, polls, forms, users, and store items. This screen also displays any requests awaiting your approval (i.e. submissions for news, events, prayer requests, or new user accounts) and a summary of your site usage. The first place you'll want to visit is the *Settings* tab. Here you can activate and manage your *Extensions* (i.e. the elements of your site). For example, if you want a store, you will need to activate the *Store*extension. If you want to create mailing lists, you will need to activate the *Mailing Lists* extension. These items will not appear in the Dashboard until they have been activated. This gives you control over what elements you want to use and those you don't. The Settings tab is also where you manage your templates and themes, as well as various other preferences and site settings (such as URLs and keywords associated with your site). Here you can also enter your account id for Google Analytics to track your Web site traffic and vital statistics. The next place you'll want to visit is the *Website Pages* tab. This is where you'll manage and edit existing content pages, news, events, forms, etc... This is also where you will find *My Podcasts* and *Live Media Streams*, as well as the main site navigation menu (listed as *Main Menu*). The other two tabs you will find in your Dashboard are *File Library* and *User Admin*. The File Library is a central place to load and store all the files you use on your site, including photos, documents, audio, and video. The User Admin is where you manage user accounts, view user profiles, and create User Access Groups. In addition, you may notice some new links at the top of your Dashboard. The two you are mostly like to use are the *Help* link and the* Profile* link. The Help link takes you straight to the v3.0 Help site. The Profile link takes you to your own Profile page where you can update your contact info, subscribe to mailing lists, and upload a photo of yourself (every user is able to do this on their individual Profile page). That covers the basics of your new v3.0 site. Don't be shy about getting in there and exploring. It is the best way to learn. [image: Tips for Using the Web for Evangelism] Frequently Asked Questions When our site is switched over to *net*Adventist v3.0 will we be able to continue using our existing URL or will we be assigned a new one? * * If you're using a custom URL, such as pvchurch.org or caldwellsda.com, you will be able to keep it. Once you complete your migration to v3.0 you will be asked if you have an existing custom URL and be given instructions on how to set it up for v3.0. However, if you have a default URL (i.e. churchname.netadventist.org) you will not be able to keep it. You will be assigned a new default domain from your hosting server (determined by your union or division). ------------------------------ *To submit a question or an article idea* for future newsletters, click hereto email Nicole Batten.
