If you migrated from* net*Adventist v.2, you will notice some new features, including the option of linking related material to your podcast, such as a Power Point or Excel file. *net*Adventist v.3 also automatically generates the URL subscription feed you will need to publish your podcast on iTunes. *net*Adventist v.3 will accept most audio and video formats for upload and download on most computers, however the internal player will only play .MP3, .MP4 (including h.264 codecs) and .FLV (Flash) file formats. There are many software programs out there that will create files in these formats. iTuneson Macs and PCs work nicely for converting into MP3 format. Nero (for PC users) can create .MP4 files. PC users can also use Media Coder(free). Before you begin podcasting in *net*Adventist, you will need to activate the * Podcasts *extension under the *Settings* tab. Select *Extensions* in the left menu and then click on the* Activate* button for *Podcasts*. To add a podcast to your site, click on the *Website Pages* tab and then select *Podcasts* from the left menu. Click on the *Add podcast *button in the top right. The next screen will take you through the steps of creating your podcast. Keep in mind that the title of your podcast works like a folder where you will add your future audio and video files, such as ?Revelation Series? or ?Bible 101?. You also have the option of adding external podcasts from other sources with v.3. To do this, select the *Subscriptions (RSS)* link from the *Podcasts*menu under the *Website Pages* tab. Then click on the *Add external podcast* button. You will need the URL address of the external podcast for this step. The podcast feed will be added to the *External Podcast *page and will automatically generate a title and description to accompany it. To link to a podcast from a Web page in your site, you can either add a widget to the page's template or use the link chooser in the toolbar of your Content Page editor. Podcasts you create yourself are listed under *Podcast* and outside podcasts you add are listed under *External Podcast*. Consider placing a ?Podcasts? link in your main menu and then organizing your various podcasts under this link as submenu items. For more on podcasting in* net*Adventist v.3, check out our tutorial. Please note: We are currently reworking the Podcast and Document Group extensions of *net*Adventist to allow editing and re-ordering of items. Podcast and Document Group editing will function similarly to the way Photo Albums currently work. This functionality is in development and is expected to be released in the next week or so. net*Share** Shared Links, Content, & Applications * How to Get Your Web Site Traffic Reports Automatically Emailed to You *net*Adventist v. 3 gives you the option of linking a Google Analytics account to your site for tracking Web traffic and statistics. You will find it under the *Settings* tab by clicking on *Google Features* in the left menu. Before it will begin tabulating your site statistics, you must first enter the Google Analytics code you were given when you signed up for your Google Analytics account. Then you can login to your Google Analytics account and view various reports about your site. Most people are too busy to regularly check their Google Analytics account so Google offers the option of having your Web site traffic reports automatically emailed to you on a regular basis. To schedule an email report, go to a site reporting page in your Google Analytics dashboard. Click on the small "Email" link with the envelope?found immediately underneath the word "Dashboard" in the middle of the screen? and then click on the ?Schedule? tab. This will allow you to set-up parameters for receiving your Web site traffic report. The report can automatically be sent to one or more additional people, such as your pastor, school principal, or conference president. It's a nice feature for Web masters. You can also choose what format you want to receive it in, such as PDF, XML, or CSV, and how often you want to receive the data (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly). In addition, once you have set up one or more scheduled reports you can then add more reports through the ?Add to Existing? tab. Just select the email you would like to add the new report to and click the ?Add Report? button. You also have the option to send a one-time report email. This is great if you need to email a Web site traffic report to all your board members before a specific meeting. net*FAQ** Frequently Asked Questions * How to I embed live audio and video streams from outside sources in my Web pages? *net*Adventist v3.0 has an extension called *Live Media* for this exact purpose. However, before you add any live streams to your site you must first activate it by clicking on your *Settings* tab and then selecting * Extensions* from the left menu. You should see a complete list of *net*Adventist extensions available to you. Click on the *Activate* button next to *Live Media*. To add a live stream to your site, simply click on the *Website Pages* tab and select *Live Media Streams* from the left menu. You will notice that some streams have already been added for you, including feeds from the Hope Channel, 3ABN, and Lifetalk. To add a new one, click on the *Add Live Media Stream *button. You will need to know the URL address of the stream you are adding to complete this step. Once you have added a new stream you can embed it into a Web page on your site by either: 1) using the link chooser in the toolbar of your Content Page editor or 2) by adding a widget to the page's template. For more on Live Media Streams, check out this tutorial. Please note that if you have had any problems in the past getting this to work, we recently made adjustments to make it easier to place off-site video players, such as those from ustream.com, on a *net*Adventist page. Many off-site players will now work by including the embedding code they supply in the source HTML on a *net*Adventist content page. ------------------------------ *To submit a question or an article idea* for future newsletters, click here to email Nicole Batten.
