This means that your v. 2 site will no longer be available after the above dates, and your migration to v. 3 must be completed. *If you've already completed the migration of your site to v. 3, then this email is not for you, however if you're still in this final stage, here is what to expect:* 1. The data from your v.2 site (calendar events, sermons, news, documents, and photos) has been moved to their new locations in your new v. 3 site. We strongly recommend you review the v2 > v3 Transition Guideto assist you in setting up your v. 3 site. 2. Your users have not been "invited" to the new site. The only users who have been added to your v.3 site so far are the scribe, webmaster, and pastor level users. Once you complete the migration (i.e. click on the *Complete Migration* button in your v.3 *Dashboard*) several things will happen automatically. ? The rest of your v.2 users will be sent an email invitation to your new v.3 site. ? A banner will be placed on your v.2 site pointing visitors to your new v.3 site. ? If you've entered a custom domain URL during this process, it will be added to the server to listen for requests for your custom domain. 3. You can get more *net*Adventist v.3 assistance and help by using the following resources: ? The v2>v3 Transition Guide ? The training/help guides and videos on *netAdventist.org * ? The support packages available through *netAserve.com * ------------------------------ *Migration Frequently Asked Questions* * * *1. Is there a document that can assist me with transitioning from v. 2 to v.3?* Yes, download the v2>v3 Transition Guideat netAserve.com. Click on *Migration Process Information* to locate and download the PDF file. *2. Are there other tutorials or guides available to help me learn netAdventist v.3?* Yes, there are some great resources on *net*Aserve.com. Just click on *Migration Info and FAQ*. Also, *netAdventist.org * has guides and videos on their site, and the South Pacific Division Web Ministry offers a great collection of videos as well. *3. I did not receive an email with any notice that my v.3 site is ready. What do I do?* Emails were sent to your v.2 email address, however, some email servers may mark this email as SPAM. So, please check your SPAM folder on your mail program and your mail server (i.e. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). Through the v.2 server shutdown period, you may call *net*Aserve for assistance in logging in at (301) 584-3100. They are available from 8:30am to 5:00pm PST, Monday through Friday (on Fridays they close one hour before sundown). *4. I can't find my new v.3 Web site. What is the URL?* We've added a file on the *net*Aserve site that lists all the v.2 sites with their corresponding v.3 URLs. Please visit *netAserve.com * and click on *Migration Info & FAQ* for this list. *5. I have a Custom Domain Name for my current v.2 site. Will this automatically move to my v.3 site?* * * Custom Domains are supported in v.3, however, you will need to update your domain registry with the new location of your site. If you are a *net*Aserve customer, they can take care of this process for you. If you're not, you can find instructions on updating your domain settings on the *netAserve * site under the *Migration Process Information* link. *For additional help in the migration process, contact **netAservevia their Web site or by calling (301) 584-3100.* * * ------------------------------ * * *How to Recreate Your v.2 netAdventist Home Page in v.3* The Home page in v.3 of *net*Adventist works differently than in v.2. This means that when you migrate over to v.3 your Home page will either appear blank or have default text displayed on it. Don't worry, all your Static Content pages have been copied over, but they won't appear on your Home page. You will have to find them, copy their contents, and put them in your new Home content page. You can access your Home page and all other Content Pages under the *Website Pages* tab. Also, Plugins now longer exist in v.3. They have been renamed Widgets. You will have to reinsert all your v.2 Plugins (i.e. Widgets) into your Home page. These don't transfer over. To add Widgets to your Home page, click on the *Settings* tab and the click on *Themes and Templates*. Select your Home page template from the list and go to step three where you can add new Widgets. Be sure to click on the *Add Widgets* button or it won't save your selections. Like Plugins in v.2, Widgets are functional elements you can add to your site. Widgets are things like the Adventist Channel, photo albums, and polls. You can also add events, news, or announcements to your Widget container if, for example, you want your most recent news items or events to display on your Home page. One last note about your Home page migration to v.3, only your Main Menu will be shifted across. This means all other menus you have created in v.2's Menu Manager will have to be recreated. ------------------------------ *We apologize if any site administrators receive this email twice in our endeavour to be certain that everyone receives a copy.* *To submit a change of email address* for your own subscription or to unsubscribe, click here. Thanks for Participating in Our January Survey ? Why Upgrading Your Browser is Good for Your Site ? FAQ: What Name Server data do I use to link my new domain name? [image: News and Updates from netAdventist] News and Updates from netAdventist *Thanks for Participating in Our January Survey *** We appreciate those of you who took the time to complete the *net*Adventist v3 January survey. Many of you were very positive?thank you for the affirmation. Your responses from the survey have brought some specific areas to our attention that need improvement, including the following: 1. Better documentation and training materials (we are regularly adding to our training documentation and currently creating how-to videos). 2. More flexibility within themes, including wide layouts. 3. Better widget modification and placement methods. 4. Podcast improvements, including the ability to edit information about already posted items. 5. Content editor improvements, so that the presentation on the site looks more like what is seen in the editor (bulleted lists and tables have been specifically flagged for improvement). We will be addressing these areas in the coming weeks. There were many other suggestions made that are helpful to us as we continue to improve *net*Adventist. Thank you again for your participation. This is because older browser versions don't always play nice with *net*Adventist v3. Our support team continues to fix these issues as they occur, however, you can avoid these issues altogether (and make your site more secure at the same time) by upgrading to newer browser versions like Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) or Firefox 3. Web experts point out that new browser versions help protect Internet users against fraud, viruses, spyware, and other online risks. One expert says, "The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world." Help protect you and your site visitors by upgrading to a newer browser. It's free?and you'll find it easier to manage your site with the newer features of today's Web browsers. What Name Server data do we use to link our new URL to the old one? If you want to point a new domain name to your existing URL, there are (at least) two methods that you can use. FIRST OPTION: 1. Set your Name Server settings at your registrar (where you registered your domain) to the following: NS1.TAGNET.ORG WEB2.TAGNET.ORG 2. Signup for any support package with netAserve.com, and then send an email to support at netAserve.com. They'll take care of the rest for you. SECOND OPTION: 1. Sign in to your domain registrar (where you registered your domain), and go to their DNS management page. CNAME records may be in sections, such as DNS Management or Name Server Management. You may have to enable advanced settings to create a CNAME record. Contact your domain registrar directly if you can't locate the CNAME management options. 2. Create two CNAME records. One that points yourdomainname.com (i.e. www.cambridgechurch.com) to your domainname.yourdefaultdomain.org (ie: cambridgechurch.adventistfaith.org), and a second one that also points www.yourdomainname.com to yourdomainname.yourdefaultdomain.org. ------------------------------ *To submit a question or an article idea* for future newsletters, click hereto email Nicole Batten. Creating Forms in *net*Adventist v3.0 ? Protecting the Privacy of Your Web Site Users ? FAQ: Some of the terms in v3 are different than in v2. Can you tell me what they mean? [image: Helpful Links, Applications, and Content] Tips for netAdventist v3.0 users Creating Forms in *net*Adventist v3.0 The Forms module in v3 has been updated, thus making adding forms easier than ever. It also allows you to duplicate forms to make tasks faster. In addition, an e-commerce field has been added. This new field enables you to create order forms for products or events. Payment is fulfilled through PayPal where users complete their transactions. Your forms are organized by Form Packages. This allows you to group your forms together. For example, you can create a Form Package just for your church's Pathfinder club. Then when you create a link to the Pathfinder Form Package it will only display the Pathfinder forms. You can access your forms under the *Website Pages* tab in your Dashboard. Then click on *Forms* in the left-side menu. In the Forms screen you will see two buttons on the top, right side: 1) *Add Form Package* and 2) *Add Form*. Use these buttons to start a new form or package group. As you create new forms, you will see them listed in the Forms screen. Simply click on * Edit* to make changes to existing forms. When you create a new form you are able to select which users can access it and whether you want to share it with other Web sites. You can also save it as draft at any time and continue creating it later. Once you've set-up your form's properties, you will be taken to a screen to add your form fields. Just click on *Add* next to any field to include it in your form. Then drag and drop your fields to move them around or click on *Edit* to customize them. Once you've selected your fields, you will be able to customize a message to users of your form. For example, you may want a message such as "Thank you for submitting your form. A staff member will contact you soon." *net*Adventist v3 has made this step easy by creating a *Cheat Sheet* (found at the bottom of your screen) where you can insert information from the form into your message, such as "Dear First Name." To add one of these tags, just click on *Copy Tag* and paste it into the message. Once you've customized your message, you can select who should receive the information from the completed forms, such as the Pathfinder Director or Church Secretary. Just simply input their email addresses. You also have the option of creating a subject line for the email and customizing the text in the body of the email (such as a description of the form they're receiving). [image: Tips for netAdventist v3.0 users] Shared Links, Content, and Applications Protecting the Privacy of Your Web Site Users When you signed-up to use the *net*Adventist software, you agreed to respect the privacy of your site users. Here are some things to keep in mind as part of fulfilling that promise. 1. Always be clear when you collect personal information from the users of your Web site. Users have a right to know how their information will be used. If you have to deviate from it, be sure seek your users' consent first. 2. When collecting personal information always do so in accordance with local laws. 3. Be careful to insure that all personal information is secure and that unauthorized people don't have access to it. If you operate within the United States you should be aware of the FTC guidelines (Federal Trade Commission). It recommends that charities and companies that collect personal information from online visitors use the following set of four standards?known as "fair information practices"?in creating privacy policies for their Web sites: *Notification: *Visitors to the Web site should be notified as to what personal information is being gathered, how that information is used by the organization, and with what third parties, if any, the organization will share it. *Choice*: Visitors should be provided with a means by which to contact the organization or take other actions to ensure that their personal information is not shared, if they so choose. *Security*: Users of the site should be notified of the means by which the organization protects personal information, including protection from any misuse, alteration, or access by unauthorized users. Organizations should strive to ensure that the same level of privacy protection is extended by any third parties with whom they share individuals' personal information. *Access*: Web site users should have reasonable access to any personal information about themselves that the organization holds, as well as a means of correcting or amending the information if it is inaccurate. Also in the United States, there is the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA. It applies primarily to commercial Web sites, but it provides sound guidance for any Web site that is intended for use by children under 13. Therefore, if your Web site collects any personally identifiable information from or about children, you should review and consider complying with this legislation. The full text of COPPA can be found online at http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm. [image: Tips for Using the Web for Evangelism] Frequently Asked Questions Some of the terms in v3 are different than in v2. Can you tell me what they mean? Some of the terms used in* *v2 of *net*Adventist have been changed or done away with in v3. For example, *Groups* no longer exist. They have been replaced with Content Feeds. *Layout Manager* no longer exists either. It has been replaced by Template (found under the Settings tab). The term * Leader* has also been done away with. You now create a leader role in the User Admin tab by clicking on User Access. This means your user levels are now fully customizable. Other terms that have been renamed include: *Kill Date*, replaced with Expiration Date; *Plugin*, replaced with Widget; *Scribe*, replaced with Publisher; *Static Content*, replaced with Content Page; *User Group*, replaced with User Access Group; *Webmaster*, replaced with Site Admin; and *Menu Manager*, replaced with Main Menu (found under the Website Pages tab).
